HDR is High Density Resolution. It is a process when using several RAW format images and combine them together to produce one single 32-bit image. The largest benefit of it is to allow you to take multiple pictures using different exposure to capture each area well.

What’s In The Number?

A RIM OS has three version numbers:

Software (4.7.0.148)

The software is basically everything that the phone does. From the SMS App, to BlackBerry Messenger, it is composed of all the applications that comes by default on your BlackBerry.

It is also the number people usualy refer to when talking about an OS release. In case of the latest Verizon update, it is 4.7.0.148.
Platform (4.0.0.181)

The platform is basically the “drivers” to the OS. It is the layer responsible of communicating commands to the hardware. It controls the cell phone radio, screen display, power regulation as well as the bluetooth radio. It is commonly refered to as the radio file on CrackBerry.

In case of Verizon’s latest release, the platform number is 4.0.0.181.
Package (4.7.0.203)

RIM develops the software and platform separately. When they decide to put the two together for testing, they give the combo a version number. This is the package number. Arguably, this should be number used to refer to a particular OS number, but convention uses the software number instead.

In case of Verizon’s latest release, the package version is 4.7.0.203.
When two releases have the same package number, it is safe to assume that they are the exact same release. The leaked version of the Verizon’s release has the same package number, therefore it is the same.

There is also another number reported in your about screen:

Branding Version

The Branding Version changes from phone to phone and doesn’t change on an OS update. Is will always be the same on your phone. Branding is saved on special memory while in factory.

The version number is formated the following way:

1.0.XXX.YYY

Where XXX is your Vendor ID and YYY is the Revision Number. Here are possible Vendor IDs (That I know of):

I recently upgraded my old Motorola Q cellphone with Verizon Wireless. Originally I went for the new Verizon Touch Pro (XV6850). While it is a great phone, I didn’t have the need for the keyboard, thus the added thickness. I traded that in for the Verizon Samsung Omnia i910.

While there isn’t a perfect phone out there and none could truely be the Apple iPhone killer, it does a fairly good job with features.

What I will focus on is my tweaking of the Omnia to fit my need. In the past 30 days of having it, I’ve done hard reset on this phone over a dozen time. Each time, I swap back and forth between various interfaces such as the original Touch Wiz UI (came with the phone), the HTC Touch Flo (similar interface found on HTC Diamond and Touch Pro), and the Samsung Today 2 (only offer on GSM version of Omnia).

Of them, I found the HTC Touch Flo to be the best to my liking. It is sleek, simple, and professional looking. It offers weather, phone book, and program access at your finger tips. The Samsung Today 2 interface is also a good contender as it make the phone usable. I do find the Touch Wiz UI silly, childish, and for teenage to use, so I dont bother too much with that.

SPB Mobile Shell is a commercial software that takes up less space than trying to use TF2D. It allows you to customize your theme to look and feel very much close to TF2D or even the apple iPhone. Jabra BT 3030

I was curious how the A2DP Bluetooth function works, so I went out and purchase the Jabra BT-3030. I have to say, it is a pretty niffty device. It allows me to use whatever headset I want (i.e.: Bose Quiet Comfort 2, Shure Earbud, etc.,).  I’ve used with my Bose QC2 and it worked nicely. The Jabra BT-3030 has a microphone jack, so you can also use it to take calls too. I already have the Motorola H12 and on order the Plantronic 925, so I’ll just use this to listen to music. Useful when I can leave my phone charging or dock at my desk, and still listen to music while I am around about. It is especially great for the gym, don’t have to carry an ipod and my phone at the same time now. It uses bluetooth signal to control the media player on the Omnia. Not too bad!

I recently had to replace my Motorola H12 because it went bad. This is a nice replacement. Fairly comfortable, the travel case is actual an extended battery mobile charger, and the sound was crisp. You should check it out.

Smilepak’s Omnia Registry Performance Hack

I’ve incorporate some of the registry hack found below and a few others into one single registry file for easy apply. You can use any registry editor and import them into your system.

Note: This registry hack assume you have installed Microsoft .NET 3.5 Compact, as it will adjust the registry to enforce it to improve performance.

Revised 01/15/2009: Fixed the reg file, found the cause for touch screen to be lost. I hard reset my phone to test it out and it worked correctly.

If you have WMWIFIRouter and your WIFI Disappear, try this 1. Soft reset 2. Do a wmwifirouter cleanup (run it and chose the cleanup if you have this installed) 3. With SAP version 4.7  extension II and above, SAP deliver a functionality called Management of Global Employees, a subset of Concurrent Employment functionality. This in itself introduces a whole new concept of tracking employees (see my help document of MGE on this website). With the concept of PERSON ID, it is a central ID now link to multiple PERNRs (also known as personnel assignments).

When a person goes on international transfer / country re-assignment, it is required by SAP for you to get a new personnel assignment number (PERNR). With that, in your configuration of personnel action, there is a check box flag to signify the action type is a country re-assignment.

When you flip this flag, only purpose it serves is when you run an action via PA40, it ask you to choose an action to put one record in withdrawn status and another to put in active status. In blunt put, terminate one and hire other.

When using this method, be prepare to have 3 personnel actions setup to handle this. One to be trigger via the PA40 and two to be trigger within PA40 transaction.

In short, when a person goes on international transfer, you will be required by SAP to introduce to him/her a new PERNR. You can still track them as one individual through the PA side using PERSON ID or through the OM side using the central person concept.

Now it comes back to the population question. Can I “NOT” have SAP force me to create a new PERNR when a person goes on international transfer / country re-assignment. The answer is also yes. You can refer to SAP OSS Note 116007 for further detail. However, if you focus on the last phrase from SAP, this is NOT the recommended option and SAP will NOT support you if a problem does occur.
